What is friction in clamps?

Friction forces are part of the energy applied in clamping, but it has a negative impact on the purpose of the clamps. The more energy goes to friction, the lesser can go to sealing. Friction can occur within the clamp or on the outer hose. In some cases friction within the clamp can cause a genuine weld of the materials. Too much friction of the clamp on the outer hose can cause leakage for reasons of trumping up the rubber.
